You're not missing anything. The problem seems to be a bug in QuickBooks that causes some records to be converted incorrectly, therefore causing all records after the "bad" record(s) to become corrupted with incorrect data. Even if you were to contact Quickbooks Technical Support for help with the conversion, they would tell you not to try to convert and try to import the history data into QuickBooks. All data in lists (i.e., item lists, chart of accounts, customer and vendor lists, employee lists, etc.) convert and import properly into QuickBooks. I would suggest that if you are sincere about converting to QuickBooks, that you use a starting date as of the last day of your fiscal year (or December 31 if you use the calendar year). Go ahead and import your list information into QuickBooks, and then have your accountant make adjusting journal entries to properly set your beginning balances for all of your accounts. You will need to supply your accountant with the balance sheet, income and loss statement, trial balance, and a full inventory count as of your QuickBooks start date so that your accountant can set your starting balances correctly for all affected accounts. If you have payroll liabilities (i.e., payroll taxes) that have not yet been paid, you will need to let your accountant know the amounts of each liability. It is preferable to provide your accountant with a payroll liabilities report dated as of your QuickBooks start date. If you would like me to do this for you, I would be more than happy to do so. Once again, my phone number is 773-792-1910 and my email is kenreid@mcleodusa.net. I look forward to your next response.
