I believe this is a Dynamics limitation not a Great Plains limitation. (Dynamics was the lower priced accounting product that had the database limit; eEnterprise was the higher priced accounting product that did not have the database limit.) When the products were merged -- and renamed Great Plains -- the version 7.5 product ended up with two new versions: Great Plains Standard has a 2GB database limit, and Great Plains (sometimes called Great Plains Professional) does not have an internal database limit that I am aware of. (There are, of course, hardware/performance issues that may dictate otherwise.)
If you are still on a Great Plains support plan, you should be able to get eEnterprise registration keys for version 7.0 (assuming you qualify for the Great Plains Professional version of the product) that will remove the limit. (It does require a tiny bit of software installation to reload the application but is not as major a task as a version upgrade may be.)
Good luck.
