i figured out one inelegant way to solve this - borrow for job description an item field that you are not using. for example, in edit job, payment info tab, there is an account field. i put my job description in there, then customized the invoice to print the account data field where i wanted the job description. so far, that's the only way i've been able to import a job description into an invoice.
hopefully the quickbooks developers will someday allow the real job description field to be imported as such.
