Tyler Technologies Signs $8 Million ERP Contract With the City of Charlotte, N.C.

Tyler’s Munis® enterprise resource planning solution to modernize Charlotte’s financial system

The city of Charlotte, N.C., has entered into an agreement with Tyler Technologies, Inc. (TYL) for its Munis® enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution to replace Charlotte’s 30-year-old financial solution thereby eliminating many of the fragmented systems that have been created to conduct its business today. Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina and the 17th largest city in the U.S. based on population.

After a comprehensive and competitive bidding process, Charlotte’s ERP selection committee chose Munis for several reasons, including Tyler’s deep public sector knowledge and its statewide expertise -- there are 80 Munis clients throughout North Carolina.

“The city of Charlotte was attracted to the Munis solution because it is specifically built for local government, and it will help us deliver fiscal transparency to our citizens while providing greater efficiencies and productivity around data collection and analysis,” said Charlotte’s ERP Program Manager David North. “Tyler Technologies was responsive to our needs and we look forward to working with them.”

The $8 million contract between Tyler Technologies and Charlotte includes software licensing fees, professional services and implementation for multiple applications, including financial management, procurement and project and grant accounting. Additionally, the contract includes software and services from third-party software providers for airport management and compliance management add-on applications.

“In most cases, it is no longer practical for large cities to contract with one supplier for an ERP system that requires significant customization, and then engage a separate third-party integrator to make the system functional,” said Richard E. Peterson Jr., president of Tyler’s ERP & School Division. “Right out of the box, Munis will help Charlotte meet departmental needs, better serve constituents and reap benefits from Tyler’s evergreen philosophy of continually investing in our technology platforms at no additional license fees to the client.”
