Go Paperless Today
By Stefan Schumacher, Editor of The Payroll Blog
Filing cabinets, manila folders, important documents stacked up on your desk? If this is still the way you or your clients are handling payroll, it’s time for a change. It’s time to go paperless.
Yes, there are environmental benefits, and you can say you’re more “green,” but purely from a business perspective, it makes sense for the following reasons:
1. You can lose paper. Your payroll reports and documentation are the last things you want to go missing. If you have them stored online, in the Cloud, the chances are much less likely that will happen. A good payroll service will provide and store all your payroll reports in their system, where you can access them from anywhere.
2. Paper is not cost efficient. Using paper means paying for paper, as well as ink cartridges and toner, envelopes, folders, check stock and possibly gasoline to drive to and from the bank. For a small business, these things add up.
3. Going paperless makes paying taxes easier. If you’re on a paperless payroll service, you should be able to pay and file your payroll taxes electronically. Small businesses can also grant accountants access to these documents, making it easier for them to keep track of the business’s finances.
