SEATTLE, March 8, 2001: Dexter + Chaney has launched mobile computing technology for its Forefront Construction Management Software. The initial Forefront Mobile Computing application, Forefront Job Cost and Payroll, enables project managers and other field personnel to conveniently record information onto a Palm Computing® connected organizer from the job site and transmit it to the main office at the touch of a button.

With Forefront Mobile Computing, employee hours, equipment usage, and daily production quantities can be recorded directly to jobs and phases. The Palm? connected organizer stores employee and phase information for jobs already set up at the main office. The user can also add information on the fly as new entries are made on location.

After data is collected in a handheld device, enhanced HotSync® technology allows the field supervisor to instantaneously merge the information with their main Forefront system. A daily productivity report includes job-to-date totals with either a projected total or an estimated total for the job and phase. This report includes drill-down capabilities for a more detailed review. On a daily basis, the field supervisor can see exactly how their job is doing just by referring to their Palm? connected organizer.

The key to handheld computing is simplicity, according to Chaney. Most of the Forefront Mobile Computing data entry is done via point-and-click and the learning curve is minimal. Job-based security is tied to the main Forefront system and is controlled by operator I.D. Additionally, the transfer of information to the main system can be done in the cradle or using wireless options where available. Forefront Mobile Computing will operate on any handheld device that runs on the Palm OS® platform.
