DEXTER + CHANEY MAKES RANKING OF 'FAST-50' HIGH-TECH COMPANIES IN WASHINGTON STATE FOR SEVENTH STRAIGHT YEAR
itte & Touche’s prestigious “Fast 50” Program for Washington state, a ranking of the state’s 50 fastest-growing technology companies, for the seventh consecutive year. Microsoft, headquartered in Redmond WA, is the only other company in Washington State that has made the list for seven straight years.
Seattle-based Dexter + Chaney, founded in 1981, develops Forefront Construction Management Software for construction companies nationwide.
Dexter + Chaney recorded 93 percent revenue growth over five years from 1998-2002. All of Dexter + Chaney’s growth has resulted from direct sales to construction companies; it has never acquired or merged with another company. Dexter + Chaney placed 43rd in the ranking, one spot ahead of Microsoft (44th, with 86 percent revenue growth over five years from 1998-2002).

To qualify for the Technology Fast 50, companies must have had operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 1998 and $1 million in 2002, must be public or private companies headquartered in North America, and be a “technology company” defined as owning proprietary technology that contributes to a significant portion of the company’s operating revenues (using other companies’ technology in a unique way does not qualify); and/or devoting a significant proportion of revenues to research and development of technology.

More than 1,000 construction companies throughout the United States use Dexter + Chaney’s ForefrontÒ Construction Management Software. Forefront includes 29 integrated modules that handle accounting, jobs, project management, human resources, document imaging, remote connectivity and data sharing.
Forefront placed second out of 125 software packages (ranked according to the number of construction companies using each product) in the “2002 Information Technology Survey for the Construction Industry” by the industry group Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA). More than 2,500 total users make use of Forefront’s Document Imaging component, which addresses a typically painful problem for contracting firms: giving management, office staff and project managers the fast access they need to important documents like AP invoices, change orders, payroll timecards, contracts and others. Companies that use Forefront report they have improved profitability and have grown their businesses more than 200 percent without adding accounting staff.
