This module was developed for exactly the purpose you are looking for, and there has been quite a bit of work done by Microsoft in this area. We have customers processing 200,000 transactions/month, real time. I do, however, highly recommend getting help with the first couple of implementations. It's a powerful tool that can provide the real time connection to GP that you are looking for, but it's not a slam dunk implementation. Further, not to discourage you from expanding into the ERP world, but I would recommend partnering with a GP focused company rather than just diving into that market. ERP is a different world, and speaking from experience, unless you are ready to expand into "accounting" consulting, I would stay focused on your product and your traditional (technical) Microsoft expertise, and I think Microsoft would recommend the same thing. Prior to Microsoft acquiring Great Plains we used to have to use a tool called Integration Manager. Unfortunately, this tool wasn’t originally created with the volume transactions in mind. Of course, this is something that follows with a successful eCommerce business. Since then, Microsoft has introduced an SDK toolbox called eConnect. This was a huge step in the right direction. Before this toolbox was rolled out, we would have to write a custom application to accomplish an efficient integration to the type of solution you have developed. And a lot of times the cost was a major barrier to entry for a company wanting a tight integration. eConnect has solved this problem by offering tools in the form of business logic. Essentially they are almost like templates, but not exactly. eConnect gives you the foundation to build on. You are basically saving the cost of having the pour the foundation yourself. All the electrical wiring and plumbing has been laid for you. You even get building supplies with eConnect. Now it’s up to you to build the structure/bridge that connects the disparate systems. By the way, Great Plains is a great choice for a mid-market financial solution. It’s the most widely accepted package in its class. And staying within the Microsoft solution stack will give you excellent mobility and a major competitive advantage. Microsoft has built a nice wrapper around its set of offerings. In natural gratificational fashion, I installed GP 7.5 from our MSDN subscription. The installation went without a hich and I was able to set up and import all of the default GL accounts ... Now, to learn more about the product .. I was fortunate enough to find a GP veteran of longer than he cares to admit to help me out with concepts. Seeing that I was the one who wrote our GL/AP/AR engine in the original offering, it was nice to see that core functionality is essentially the same, but again, GP offers many things that I suspected we did not... So now I am learning about this eConnect SDK .. is this an true SDK or is it a seperate module that happens to have an SDK? Forgive me if this is a naive question ... just installing it now ... going into grave detail, we have developed and deployed a very specialized web-based application for a very niche market. The application basically runs the day to day business operations. We had rolled our own GL/AP/AR modules and while they work, we are looking to offload that portion of application onto a third party product which give the product greater potential for the accounting area. Naturally, we would also probably move over the invoicing, orders, etc as well but primarily want to offload the primary stuff as we already have capability in the app to post to an AR or AP module. We are a microsoft shop and have built the app on the .net platform and use many bleeding edge technologies in it. My first question is that concerning expense/licensing. The typical client may have 20 - 80 employees but only 2 - 5 people who would need client server access to accounting (although the other employees would be "touching it" through the third party app. So firstly, Does MS Great plains provide a way to bridge between the great plains app and a third party app easily and in real time (ie .. posting ar via third party, etc...)? It appears that very little has been done to .net enable the newer versions, is this true and how reliable is the provided bridge interface? We really just want to hear of some opinions from those that use and have exposure before we move forward. Being an MS Partner already, and looking at the MS GP Partner program, we would definately go that route if we were to move forward with that.
